Dan Kornbaum (JR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) scored 19 points to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to a 74-58 win over Benedictine University (Ill.) to finish 2-0 at the Colorado College Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday evening at Reid Arena.
Kornbaum hit 7-of-12 from the field and added a game-high eight rebounds to lead Augsburg (3-0) to the victory.
Brett Rasmussen (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored a career-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg were
Parker Hines (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) and
Tyler Schmidt (SR, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS), who scored 14 and 12 points respectively.
Benedictine (1-2) was led by Jamison Montgomery, who finished with 16 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 night at the free-throw line.
After trailing by one at the half, the Auggies put together a great second half of basketball. Augsburg hit 63.6 percent (14-of-22) of its shots in the second-half, while the Auggie defense held Benedictine to just 22.7 percent (5-of-22).
For the game, Augsburg shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field, while holding Benedictine to just 36.4 percent (16-of-44). Augsburg claimed a 32-28 advantage on the boards and forced 16 turnovers while only committing seven.
Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (11/28) when it travels to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
