Auggies fall 3-0 to Pointers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Making his second collegiate start in goal, John Bretzman (SO, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) collected 34 saves for Augsburg College in the Auggies' 3-0 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point (3-2-0 overall) outshot Augsburg (1-3-0 overall) by a 37-28 margin, including a 15-6 advantage in the second period, en route to the victory. Nick Graves (SR, Hewitt, Wis.) had 28 saves in goal for the Pointers.

The Pointers got on the scoreboard at the 10:58 mark of the first period on a goal from Scott Henegar (SO, Trenton, Mich.), assisted by Kyle Politz (JR, Elko, Minn.) and Jerry Freismuth (SR, Grosse Pointe, Mich.). Nick Kenney (SR, Wixom, Mich.) gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead on a goal from Jon Bockmann (SR, WInd Lake, Wis.) at the 2:02 mark of the second period, and Politz finished the scoring with an empty-net, shorthanded goal with 29 seconds left to play.

Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and #B.J. McClellan# (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots on-goal each for Augsburg, while Jonathan Barrick (SR, Litchfield, Minn.), Daniel Hildebrandt (SO, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS), Chris Student (JR, Edina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) and Tim Serratore (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) had three shots each.

Augsburg returns to action next Friday (11/9) at 7 p.m. with a nonconference game at Wisconsin-Stout.
