John Bretzman (SO, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) collected 18 saves in goal in relief for Augsburg College in the Auggies' 5-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Ryan Johnson (SR, Blaine, Minn.) had a goal and two assists in the victory for Gustavus (5-5-1 overall, 1-4-0 MIAC). Darren Lapic (FY, New Prague, Minn.) had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Lapic (SO, New Prague, Minn.), Ilya Kravtchouk (JR, Palisades, Calif.) and Dane Erickson (SR, Woodbury, Minn.) also scored for the Gusties.
Bretzman stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced for Augsburg (2-6-0 overall, 1-2-0 MIAC), coming into the game in the second period in relief of starter
Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS). Lochner had eight saves in the first period for the Auggies.
The Gusties scored twice in a 1:07 span early in the game to take the lead, with Darren Lapic and Tyler Lapic scoring goals. Johnson scored just before the end of the first period, giving the Gusties a 3-0 lead. Kravtchouk scored 3:45 into the second period, and Erickson scored an unassisted goal at the 10:21 mark of the third period.
Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 31-30 margin, with Tyler Venne (SR, New Hope, Minn.) claiming 30 saves in goal for the Gusties.
Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while
Mack Ohnsted (FY, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) and
Niklas Almstrom (JR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) had four shots each.
Landon Olson (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) had three shots for the Auggies.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (12/1) at 7:05 p.m. at the Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter, Minn.
