BOXSCORE MENOMONIE, Wis. -- Andrew Allen (FY, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) and
Mack Ohnsted (FY, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) both scored their first collegiate goals, but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College men's hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday evening at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
Mike Hartviksen had a goal and an assist for Wisconsin-Stout (2-2-2 overall), with Scott Bell, Charles Lachance, Jordan Tredinnick and Sam Carr also scoring goals. The Blue Devils built a 2-0 second-period lead, then scored three goals in the third peirod to pull away. Logan Maly and Jake Useldinger had two assists each for Wisconsin-Stout.
Augsburg (1-4-0 overall) outshot Wisconsin-Stout by a 45-32 margin, but Blue Devil goalie Tom Lescovich had 43 saves to score the win.
Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 27 saves in goal for Augsburg.
Lachance and Bell scored power-play goals for Wisconsin-Stout, but Augsburg cut into the lead at the 14:19 mark of the second period, as Allen scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by
Lucas Hendrickson (FY, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) and
Thomas Paine (SO, Superior, Wis./Duluth (Minn.) Marshall HS).
Hartviksen scored for the Blue Devils at the 5:16 mark of the third period, but the Auggies cut the lead to 3-2 just 43 seconds later, as Ohnsted scored his first collegiate goal from
Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and
Chris Student (JR, Edina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS). The Blue Devils scored just 34 seconds after Ohnsted's goal, with Tredinnick scoring, and Carr added an empty-net goal with 1:14 left to play.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next week with a series against St. John's. Next Thursday's (11/15) game is at 7:30 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and next Saturday's (11/17) game is at 7 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
