BOXSCORE ST. PETER, Minn. --
Tom Kuhn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) scored his first collegiate points with a goal and an assist, but his Augsburg College men's hockey team was edged 3-2 by host Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday evening at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
Kuhn had an assist on Augsburg's (2-7-0 overall, 1-3-0 MIAC) first goal, scored by Andrew Allen (FY, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) early in the second period, then tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at the 13:28 mark of the third period.
Jack Walsh scored an unassisted goal with 29 seconds left in the five-minute overtime period for the game-winner for Gustavus (6-5-1 overall, 2-4-0 MIAC). Tyler Schwartz and Andy Pearson also scored goals for the Gusties.
Allen put the Auggies on the board first with a goal at the 2:43 mark of the second period, assisted by
Tim Serratore (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) and Kuhn. But Gustavus tied the game 16 seconds later, when Schwartz scored from Nate Paulson and Brian White.
The Gusties took the lead at the 12:59 mark of the third period, when Pearson scored from Zach May and Dane Erickson, but the Auggies tied the game 29 seconds later, when Kuhn scored from
Niklas Almstrom (JR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) and
Derek Loisel (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.).
Augsburg outshot Gustavus by a 39-37 margin.
Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 34 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Patrick Sullivan had 37 saves for Gustavus.
Augsburg has three more games, all on the road, before the holiday break. Next Friday (12/7) at 7 p.m., the Auggies travel to face Wisconsin-Superior, then face Northland (Wis.) in Ashland, Wis., next Saturday (12/8) at 7:05 p.m., then travel to face Wisconsin-River Falls on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7:05 p.m.
