BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team fell 60-43 to unbeaten Cornell College (Iowa) in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. With the loss, the Auggies fall to 3-6 overall, while the Rams move to 9-0 on the season.
Augsburg was led by
Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS) and
Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) who both finished in double figures. Skriba finished with 11 points and two rebounds, while Tichy finished with 10 points and three blocked shots.
Cornell was led by Taylor Dicus (SO, Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon HS), who finished with the only double-double of the afternoon, claiming 13 points and 10 boards.
The Auggies led for the entire first half, shooting more than 52 percent from the field, and took a 26-17 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Augsburg maintained its double-digit lead until the 17:38 mark of the second half and continued to lead until the 8:55 mark. Cornell turned up the pressure on both ends of the court, unfortunately at the same time the Augsburg offense went cold. The Rams showed why they are unbeaten on the season, outscoring the Auggies 25-6 over the final 8:17 of the game and going on to claim a 60-43 victory.
For the game, Augsburg shot 32.6 percent (15-of-46) from the field, while the Rams were able to hit on 34.7 percent (17-of-49) of their shot attempts. Cornell claimed a 39-30 advantage on the boards.
Augsburg is now idle for the remainder of 2012 and will return to action on Wednesday (1/2) at 7:30 p.m., with the Auggies traveling to St. Paul to take on the Wildcats of St. Catherine University.
