BLAINE, Minn. -- Augsburg College goalie
Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) claimed a season-high 53 saves in a 2-1 loss to host Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at the Schwan Super Rink.
Augsburg (5-9-6 overall, 2-9-2 MIAC) took a 1-0 lead into the third period, as
Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS) scored an unassisted goal at the 2:30 mark of the second period.
But Bethel (9-9-2 overall, 7-6-0 MIAC) scored twice in the first 5:20 of the third period to rally for the win. Anna Carlson scored from Sarah Kartak at the 1:43 mark, and Christina Masten scored an unassisted goal at the 5:20 mark.
Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 55-27 margin, including a 26-11 advantage in the third period. Schulz's 53 saves marked the fifth time she has recorded 40-plus saves in her 13 games this season. Jess Newstrom had 26 saves for the Royals.
Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) had seven shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Rajewsky had six shots on-goal.
Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) and
Jess Geisinger (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had three shots each.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/11) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
