BLAINE, Minn. --
Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS),
Derek Loisel (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) and #B.J. McClellan# (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 5-3 decision to host Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at the Schwan Super Rink.
Augsburg (9-13-1 overall, 5-8-1 MIAC) tied the game at 3-3 after two periods, but Bethel (7-14-2 overall, 5-7-2 MIAC) scored twice in the first 1:28 of the third period to take the lead en route to the victory.
Ben McClellan put the Auggies on the board at the 8:09 mark fo the first period, scoring his sixth goal of the season, a shorthanded tally from
Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.). Loisel scored his fourth goal of the season at the 12:59 mark of the second period, assisted by
Scott Eberline (SO, Novi, Mich.).
B.J. McClellan tied the game for the Auggies at the 14:21 mark of the second period, assisted by
Niklas Almstrom (SO, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS).
The Royals scored three times in the first period, as Jimmie Perkins scored from Jake Kogler and Jon Crouse 32 seconds into the game, and Jack Emmer scored from Jack Paul and Perkins at the 3:22 mark. Garrett Windle put the Royals up 3-1 at the 8:55 mark on a power-play goal from Tyler Swanson and Tyler Sorensen.
Kogler put the Royals ahead 4-3 with a goal from Paul 14 seconds into the third period, and Chris Fiala capped the scoring from Dan Rowland at the 1:28 mark of the final frame.
Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 34-30 margin.
Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 29 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Dan Harper had 27 saves for Bethel.
Augsburg finishes the regular season with a two-game series against St. Thomas. Next Friday's (2/17) game is at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and next Saturday's (2/18) game is at 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
