Auggies draw 1-1 with Bethel

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jeanna Dudley (JR, Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community HS) scored for Augsburg College in the third period, and Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 33 saves in goal, as the Auggies claimed a 1-1, overtime tie with Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Dudley scored her first goal of the season on the power play at the 4:12 mark of the third period for Augsburg (5-9-7 overall, 2-9-3 MIAC), assisted by Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) and Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS).

But Bethel (9-9-3 overall, 7-6-1 MIAC) tied the game just 1:24 later, as Biz Huss (JR, Beaver Bay, Minn./William M. Kelley HS) scored an unassisted, power-play goal.

The overtime game was the fourth (0-1-3) in the last five contests for Augsburg, and the eighth in Augsburg's last 13 games (1-1-6).

Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 34-24 margin, with Schulz collecting 33 saves for the draw for the Auggies. On the weekend, Schulz collected 86 saves on 89 Bethel shots (.966 save percentage). She had 53 saves in Augsburg's 2-1 loss to the Royals on Friday night.

Jess Newstrom (JR, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) had 23 saves in goal for Bethel.

Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) had four shots and Carissa Miller (JR, Woodbury, Minn.) had three shots.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a series against St. Thomas. Augsburg will host the Tommies next Saturday (2/17) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and will face the Tommies on Sunday (2/19) at 1 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn. The game at St. Thomas was moved from Friday to Sunday in a change from previously published schedules.
