MINNEAPOLIS --
Tim Serratore (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) claimed his first collegiate multi-goal game with a two-goal effort, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 4-3 victory over the No. 5-ranked University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Two Auggies --
Zach Dick (FY, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and
Jeremy Rolfe (FY, Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) -- collected their first collegiate points in Friday's win, as Rolfe assisted on Serratore's first goal, and Dick scored his first collegiate goal at the 14:13 mark of the second period.
With the victory, Augsburg (10-13-1 overall, 6-8-1 MIAC) snapped three St. Thomas (17-4-2 overall, 12-2-1 MIAC) streaks -- an 11-game winning streak and a 12-game (11-0-1) unbeaten streak overall this season, and a 19-game (18-0-1) unbeaten streak against Augsburg. The Auggies' last victory over the Tommies was a 4-2 home win on Feb. 7, 2003.
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 46-28 margin in the game.
Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) claimed 43 saves in goal to earn the win for the Auggies. Drew Fielding (FY, Burlington, Ontario) had 24 saves for the Tommies.
Augsburg built a 2-0 lead with two goals in a 3:58 span in the first period, as Serratore scored from Rolfe and
Derek Loisel (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) at the 11:34 mark, and
Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored from
Thomas Paine (FY, Superior, Wis./Duluth Marshall HS) and
Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) at the 15:32 mark.
The Tommies tied the game with two goals in the second period, as Alex Alternbernd (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) scored from Riley Horgan (JR, Minnetrista, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and Willi Rose (SO, Stowe, Vt.) at the 3:10 mark, and Brandon Bahnemann (JR, Rochester, Minn.) scored from Bryce Walker (SO, Quill Lake, Saskatchewan) at the 13:23 mark.
But the Auggies took the lead for good just 50 seconds later, with Dick scoring from Rolfe and Loisel. Serratore notched his second goal of the game at the 17:57 mark of the second period, scoring from
Niklas Almstrom (SO, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS). Bahnemann scored his second goal of the game for the Tommies at the 7:39 mark of the third period, scoring from Matt Lipinski (SR, Faribault, Minn.) and Chris Hickey (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn.).
The teams complete the MIAC regular season on Saturday (2/18) at 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
