Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) collected 39 saves in goal for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.
St. Thomas (18-4-2 overall, 13-2-1 overall), the MIAC's regular-season champion, outshot Augsburg (10-14-1 overall, 6-9-1 MIAC) by a 41-18 margin. Lochner recorded his 15th game with 30-plus saves this season for the Auggies. In the weekend split with the Tommies, Lochner stopped 82 of 87 shots (.943 save percentage).
Brandon Bahnemann scored a power-play goal from Matt Lipinski and Alex Alternbernd at the 3:39 mark of the second period for the Tommies, and Spencer Brendel scored an even-strength goal from Bryce Walker and Alex Niestrom at the 5:17 mark of the third period to cap the scoring. Drew Fielding stopped all 18 shots he faced in goal for the Tommies.
Daniel Hildebrandt (FY, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS),
John Lennartson (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) and
Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) had three shots on-goal each for the Auggies, while
Tim Serratore (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) and
Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had two shots each.
In closing its season, Augsburg's 10 victories marked the fourth double-digit-win campaign in head coach
Chris Brown's six seasons with the Auggies, and its third double-digit win campaign in a row.
Saturday's game marked the farewell for six Auggie men's hockey seniors -- Lennartson, Doden,
