Auggies end year with 5-1 loss

MINNEAPOLIS -- Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg College, as the Auggies dropped a 5-1 decision to Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Brooke Rundell (SR, Thief River Falls, Minn.) scored twice for Concordia (14-4-5 overall, 10-3-5 MIAC), which finished the regular season in second place in the MIAC standings. Ali Nelson (JR, Maple Grove, Minn.), Bekah Wright (FY, Plymouth, Minn.) and Madison Gendreau (FY, Bismarck, N.D.) also scored for the Cobbers.

The Cobbers outshot Augsburg (6-11-8 overall, 3-11-4 MIAC) by a 51-27 margin. Crystal Amunrud (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) collected 35 saves in goal for Augsburg before being relieved by Alex Hall (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) early in the third period. Hall had 11 saves.

Nelson scored the opening goal of the game for the Cobbers on the power play with 30 seconds left in the first period. Wright and Rundell scored twice in a 1:42 span early in the second period to give the Cobbers a 3-0 lead, and Rundell scored her second goal of the game 18 seconds into the third period.

Berthold scored her fourth goal of the season at the 16:14 mark of the third period, a power-play goal assisted by Diana Bocklund (JR, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS).

Gendreau capped the scoring for the Cobbers with an unassisted goal at the 17:36 mark of the third period. Tamara Twite claimed 26 saves in goal for the Cobbers.

Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, MInn.) had four shots on-goal to lead Augsburg, while Berthold, Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) and Jess Geisinger (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had three shots each.

The game was the final Augsburg contest for four Auggie women's hockey seniors -- Jenna Marquardt (SR, New Prague, Minn.), Katie Lamirande (SR, Cloquet, Minn.), Amy Wenzel (SR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) and student video coordinator Hayley Thomas (SR, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS).
