MINNEAPOLIS -- Olivia Muyres (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies opened the 2012 women's soccer season with a 2-0 nonconference victory over Northwestern College-Roseville on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Muyres scored the first goal for the Auggies (1-0-0 overall) in the 17th minute on an assist by Kelsey Sorensen (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.), on a shot from the left side of the box. Dorale added an unassisted goal in the 70th minute, as her shot was deflected by a Northwestern (0-0-1 overall) defender into the net.

"I was pleased with our overall performance. We've had a good preseason, so it's nice to carry that momentum into our first game and get a victory," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre.

The Auggies dominated possession much of the contest, outshooting the Eagles by a 16-2 margin in the first half en route to a 24-4 advantage in the game. Dorale had four shots, while Muyres, Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS), Marie Fitzgerald (FY, Fort Atkinson, Wis.), Taylor Kuramoto (SO, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) and Devon Ellena (SR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had three shots each.

Augsburg goalkeeper Katie Gajewski (JR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected four saves to claim her 10th career shutout. Sarah Stenson (JR, Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy HS) had nine saves in goal for Northwestern.

Augsburg returns to action on Monday (9/3) at 7:30 p.m., hosting Minnesota-Morris at Edor Nelson Field.

"While it was a productive performance, there is ample opportunity for improvement," Navarre said. "I think everyone is excited about our team, so we just have to make sure we continue to set high standards and support each other. I look for us to be ready to go again on Monday versus Minnesota-Morris."
