BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Despite outshooting the University of Wisconsin Platteville 21-7, the Augsbsurg College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 nonconference contest on Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.
"Our team learned a difficult lesson today in suffering the pain of regret," stated head coach
Greg Holker. "We also suffered the pain of additional injuries, which will hinder us as we move into Wednesday's game with Macalester."
After playing 89 minutes of scoreless soccer, Platteville's Mark Feltner scored the game's only goal on a header off a long throw in by Cameron Weess.
Scott Clinton (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led Augsburg with five shots and
Josh Sweeney (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) recorded three shots.
"On a positive note, I thought
Aaron Wylie was very good today. He was busy, incisive on the dribble and sharp with his passes. Also,
Sam Foy continues to improve with each performance, and today was no exception."
The Auggies recorded an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks. Augsburg keeper
Clayton Lynch recorded two saves on the afternoon, while Platteville keeper Ian Christensen recorded nine saves.
Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (9/19) with a key MIAC match-up as they play host to Macalester College at Edor Nelson field at 7:30 p.m.
