Auggie volleyball sweeps Gustavus

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Ashley Peper (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) claimed a match-high 15 kills and added 12 digs as the Augsburg College volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory (25-18, 25-17, 25-13) over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Gustavus Adolphus College in front of a raucous crowd Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Peper, who currently ranks eighth in the conference with a 3.11 kills-per-set average, hit a team-best .500 during Saturday's match. Peper has led the Auggies in kills in each of the team's past seven matches.

Micha Sater (SR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) and Tabby Roh (SO, LaCrosse, Wis./Central HS) added six kills in the match for Augsburg (10-7 overall, 2-2 MIAC), which claimed its third conference win over the Gusties in the past four seasons.

Augsburg jumped out to an early two-set lead, taking the first set by a score of 25-18, and followed suit with a 25-17 win in the second set. Gustavus (7-10 overall, 1-4 MIAC) battled back early in the third set, but a 7-1 run midway through the set allowed the Auggies to put the set away for good and earn the match victory.

Emily McCourt (JR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) claimed a match-high 31 assists, to go along with two service aces. Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) added five kills and six blocks, while Jamila Lee (SR, Richfield, Minn.) recorded five kills and five blocks.

Defensive specialist Emma Sievers (SO, Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham Hall HS) claimed a team-high 17 digs, while Lauren Butler (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) added eight digs for Augsburg.

Augsburg returns to action this Wednesday (10/3) at 7 p.m. with a key MIAC home match against Bethel University at Si Melby Hall.
