Auggies drop 61-60 heartbreaker to St. Olaf

BOXSCORE NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team lost a 61-60 heartbreaker to the St. Olaf College on Saturday afternoon at the Skoglund Center. The Oles used a pair of free throws with 26 seconds remaning to go ahead 61-60 and a Jolene Blood (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) jumper with 11 second remaining didn't drop as the Auggies couldn't stop a late St. Olaf rally.

Augsburg (5-8 overall, 3-7 MIAC) was led by  Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS), who posted her third consecutive double-digit scoring performance and seventh of the season, finishing with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor, while adding a season-high eight rebounds and an assist. Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Blood, who did all of her scoring from beyond the arc, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Jessica Lillquist (FY, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) also had a solid afternoon for the Auggies, finishing with a season-high seven boards and added nine points.

St. Olaf (7-6 overall, 5-5 MIAC) was led by the duo of Mackenzie Wolter and Nikki Frogner, who finished with 18 and 16 points respectively.

In the first-half, Augsburg used a 16-2 run over the final 4:20 to take a commanding 33-19 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Auggies maintained their double-digit lead until the 8:51 mark of the second-half, when a Wolter's jumper cut the Augsburg lead to 48-40. Augsburg used a 3-pointer by Blood at the 3:41 mark to extend the Auggie lead to 58-49 but St. Olaf closed the game on a 12-2 run to go up 61-60 with 26 seconds remaining. Augsburg had a chance to go ahead with a Blood jumper with 11 seconds to play but couldn't get it to fall.

For the game, Augsburg shot a 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field, while the Oles connected on 37.3 percent (22-of-59) of their shot attempts. St. Olaf claimed a 44-31 advantage on the boards and Augsburg was only able to convert on 10-of-21 from the free throw line.

Augsburg and St. Olaf both return to action on Wednesday (1/16) with the Auggies traveling to St. Peter to take on Gustavus Adolphus College in its final of five consecutive games on the road, while the Oles host St. Mary's University in MIAC action.
