Auggies fall 66-48 at Gustavus

BOXSCORE ST. PETER, Minn. -- The Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team used a big game-opening run to claim a 66-48 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court.

Katie Ahlstrom (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) led Augsburg (5-9 overall, 3-8 MIAC) with 11 points, while Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond du Lac HS) had eight points, and Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn.) had eight points, three rebounds and three assists. Abbey Luger (SO, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had six points, three rebounds and two steals, and Jessica Lillquist (FY, Sebeka, Minn.) scored six points with five rebounds.

Gustavus (11-3 overall, 10-1 MIAC) was led by Abby Rothenbuehler, who scored 16 points with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Julia Dysthe scored nine points with six assists and five steals, and Kelsey Florian and Karina Schroeder added eight points each, with Schroeder contributing seven rebounds.

The Gusties opened the contest with a 15-1 run over the first 5:48 of play, with Rothenbuehler scoring nine points in the stretch. The Auggies used a 15-7 run to cut the lead to six points, at 22-16 with 4:52 left in the first half, but the Gusties scored the final 11 points of the first half to take a 33-16 lead into the locker room. The Gusties led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Augsburg shot 26.0 percent (13-of-50) from the field in the game, while Gustavus connected on 50.0 percent (24-of-48) of its shots. The Gusties outrebounded the Auggies by a 40-28 margin. Fifteen Augsburg players saw playing time in the game, with eight scoring.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (1/19) at 1 p.m., hosting St. Mary's as part of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader at Si Melby Hall.
