Auggies score 1-1 tie with Pipers

BOXSCORE VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Thomas Paine (SO, Superior, Wis./Duluth (Minn.) Marshall HS) scored the game-tying goal 5:39 into the third period, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 1-1, overtime tie with host Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening at the Vadnais Heights Sports Center.

Paine tied the game with his third goal of the season, assisted by Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and #B.J. McClellan# (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS), at the 5:39 mark of the third period for Augsburg (3-11-2 overall, 1-5-1 MIAC).

Hamline (1-14-3 overall, 1-7-1 MIAC) had taken a 1-0 lead with a goal from Cameron Stowers, assisted by Ryan McElhone and Danny Muck, at the 1:39 mark of the second period.

Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 29-26 margin, including a 3-2 advantage in overtime. Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 28 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Matt Hemingway had 25 saves for the Pipers.

Paine and Jonathan Barrick (SR, Litchfield, Minn.) had four shots on-goal each for Augsburg, while B.J. McClellan, George Jackson (SO, Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley HS) and Andrew Allen (FY, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) had three shots each.

The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/19) at 7:05 p.m. at Augsburg's Ed Saugestad Rink.
