Auggies fall 2-0 to Hamline

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Two Hamline University goals in a 38-second span early in the third period lifted the Pipers to a 2-0 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Brianna Schulz (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 22 saves in goal for Augsburg (4-9-1 overall, 0-6-1 MIAC), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday.

Jess Hunt (JR, Bemidji, Minn.) broke the scoreless tie with a goal from Sam Berger (SO, St. Paul, Minn.) and Ashley Maskel (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) at the 3:15 mark of the third period, and Chelsea Koehn (FY, Clyde, Mich.) made it 2-0 with a goal at the 3:53 mark from Megan Gjere (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Nina Chase (FY, Mound, Minn.).

Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 25-24 margin in the game. Kayla Fuechtmann (FY, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had six shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Rachel Hennessy (SO, Williston, N.D.) and Kendall Christian (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) had three shots each.

The Auggies were able to hold one of the top power plays in the MIAC scoreless in five opportunities. Hamline entered the game with a league-best 13 power-play goals in 52 power-play opportunities (25.0 percent).

Sarah Schneekloth (SR, Marshall, Minn.) had 25 saves in goal for the Pipers.

The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/19) at 2 p.m. at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum in St. Paul, Minn.
