BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- #B.J. McClellan# (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and
Loren Egan (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed a 2-2 overtime tie with Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
McClellan opened the scoring for Augsburg (3-11-3 overall, 1-5-2 MIAC) with a goal 33 seconds into the second period, assisted by
Thomas Paine (SO, Superior, Wis./Duluth (Minn.) Marshall HS). Egan scored for the Auggies at the 9:20 mark of the second period, assisted by
Zach Blaisdell (FY, Buffalo, Minn.) and
George Jackson (SO, Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley HS).
Hamline (1-14-4 overall, 1-7-2 MIAC) answered each Augsburg goal with a marker of its own. Kevin Novakovich (FY, Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook HS) scored for the Pipers at the 2:00 mark of the second period, assisted by Grant Fahnhorst (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and Brandon Zurn (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.). Joel Scattarelli (JR, Elk River, Minn./Rogers HS) scored at the 5:39 mark of the third period, assisted by Chris Hoffman (FY, Leonard, Mich./Oxford HS) and Joe Rubbelke (SO, North St. Paul, Minn.).
The tie was the second straight in the series between the Auggies and Pipers, after the teams played a 1-1 tie on Friday night.
Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 37-35 margin, including a 19-9 advantage in the third period and overtime.
Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 35 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Matt Hemingway (JR, Alexandria, Minn.) had 33 saves for Hamline.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a series against St. Mary's. Next Friday's (1/25) game is at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and next Saturday's (1/26) game is at 7:30 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
