2nd period goals lift Auggies to 2-0 win

BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jeanna Dudley (SR, Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community HS) and Kayla Fuechtmann (FY, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) scored goals 4:18 apart in the second period, lifting Augsburg College to a 2-0 victory over host Hamline University in a Minnesota intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Dudley scored her first goal of the season from Fuechtmann at the 13:31 mark of the second period, followed at the 17:49 mark by Fuechtmann's team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by Rachel Hennessy (SO, Williston, N.D.) and Claire Cripps (FY, Hutchinson, Minn.).

Augsburg (5-9-1 overall, 1-6-1 MIAC) won despite being outshot by a 32-25 margin by Hamline (4-8-3 overall, 1-6-1 MIAC). Augsburg goalie Brianna Schulz (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 32 saves to pick up her second career shutout in the victory.

Fuechtmann's seven goals this season are now tied for fifth-best among MIAC players in overall statistics, and her 11 points are tied for ninth-best among MIAC players. Hennessy now has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) on the season, tied for seventh-best among MIAC players.

Augsburg completed a strong penalty-kill weekend, holding one of the MIAC's top power-play units scoreless in eight attempts on the weekend. The Auggies killed off all three Hamline power plays on Saturday. Hamline has 13 power play goals, the most of any MIAC team so far this season.

Sarah Schneekloth had 23 saves in goal for Hamline.

Augsburg returns to action next weekend with a MIAC series against St. Mary's. Next Friday's (1/25) game is at 7 p.m. in Winona, Minn., while next Saturday's (1/26) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
