BOXSCORE MOORHEAD, Minn. --
Brett Rasmussen (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and
Dan Kornbaum (JR, Little Falls, Minn.) scored 15 points apiece but it wasn't enough to keep up with a hot-shooting Concordia offense as the Auggies fell 88-68 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Auditorium.
Rasmussen finished 5-of-9 from the field and added four rebounds, while Kornbaum added six boards and an assist to his 15 points to lead Augsburg (15-4 overall, 10-4 MIAC). Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was
Eren Cur (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS), who finished with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Concordia (12-7 overall, 9-5 MIAC) was led by Brandon Fisher, who finished with a game-high 19 points and six boards.
Rasmussen scored the opening bucket of the game, giving the Auggies an early 2-0 lead. The two teams traded baskets over the opening five minutes of action but Concordia used a 11-0 run to push the Cobber lead to double digits and the Cobbers extended their lead to 45-32 at the intermission. Concordia continued to shoot the ball extremely well and put up 88 points against a tough Augsburg team.
For the game, Augsburg shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor, while Concordia connected on 62.7 percent (37-of-59) of its shots. The Cobbers claimed a 38-20 advantage on the boards and were able to outscore the Auggies 20-11 in points in the paint.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (2/2) when Augsburg hosts the University of St. Thomas in a key MIAC matchup.
