Augsburg falls to Concordia 64-51

BOXSCORE MOORHEAD, Minn. --  Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) scored 15 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team but a strong second-half by the Cobbers proved too much for the Auggies to overcome as Augsburg fell 64-51 to Concordia College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall.

Tichy finished 6-of-11 from the field, while adding three rebounds and a pair of steals to lead Augsburg (6-12 overall, 4-11 MIAC). Jessica Lillquist (FY, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) posted a season-high 10 rebounds to lead the Auggies on the boards, while adding six points and a pair of assists. Abbey Luger (SO, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) added nine points and pair of rebounds.

Concordia (14-4 overall, 13-2 MIAC) was led by Tricia Sorensen, who posted the only double-double of the game, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Auggies played well in the first-half, outshooting and outrebounding the Cobbers. The two teams battled back and forth for the majority half and a Tichy 3-pointer with 1:03 remaining pulled the Auggies within one. Neither team scored in the final minute and Concordia took a 26-25 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

A pair of Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS) free throws at the 15:46 mark brought the Auggies within 34-31 of the Cobbers but that was as close as the Auggies would get as the Cobbers went on a 10-2 run and kept their lead around 10 points for a majority of the second frame. Concordia went on to claim the 64-51 win over the Auggies.

For the game, Augsburg shot 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the field, while the Cobbers connected on 42.6 percent (23-of-54) of their shots. The Auggies outrebounded the Cobbers by a 37-32 margin.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (1/30) when it host St. Catherine University in MIAC action at Si Melby Hall.
