Augsburg dominates in 83-56 win over St. Kate's

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team scored a season-high 83 points in a dominant 83-56 win over St. Catherine University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggies move to 7-12 overall (5-11 MIAC), while the Wildcats fall to 2-17 overall (1-15 MIAC).

Augsburg was led was led by Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS), who finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while tying a season-high five assists in just 18 minutes of action. Also scoring in double-figures for Augsburg was Abbey Luger (SO, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS), who finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS) led the Auggies defensively posting a career-high five steals, while adding six points and five boards. Overall, 16 different Auggies saw action in the game and 13 factored into the scoring.

St. Catherine was led by the duo of Sarah Mong and Kristen Lee who finished with 16 and 15 points respectively.

The Auggies began the game on a 15-2 run and closed the first half on a 12-0 run. Augsburg shot 50.0 percent (18-of-36) from the field in the first half and went into the locker room leading 44-14 at the intermission. The Auggie reserves continue to play strong in the second half, extedning the Auggie lead to as many as 38, with 5:51 to play. The Augsburg bench had one of its best games in recent memory, scoing 43 points on the evening as the Auggies cruised on to a 83-56 victory and completed the season sweep of the Wildcats.

For the game, Augsburg shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70), while St. Kate's was able to connect on 43.5 percent (20-of-46) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a commanding 43-27 advantage on the boards, including tying a season-high 20 offensive boards. Augsburg posted a 35-9 advantage in points-off-turnovers and a 25-5 advantage in second-chance points.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (2/2) when it hosts the University of St. Thomas in a men's and women's double-header at Si Melby Hall. Women's action begins at 1 p.m., while the men tip-off at 3 p.m.
