Auggies fall to Tommies

BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jessica Lillquist (FY, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) scored a career-high 12 points leading the Augsburg College women's basketball team but it wasn't enough as the Auggies fell 78-55 to a tough St. Thomas team.

Lillquist posted her-career high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line, while adding five boards in leading Augsburg (4-7 overall, 2-6 MIAC). Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS) continued her solid season for Augsburg, scoring a team-high 14 points while adding a pair of rebounds. Marie Fitzgerald (FY, Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson HS) led Augsburg on the boards with a team-high six rebounds, while adding three points and assist and steal.

St. Thomas (9-1 overall, 7-0 MIAC) finished with four players in double figures, led by the double-double of Anna Smith, posting 12 points, 12 boards and a game-high six blocked shots.

Augsburg led the game 6-2 after the opeing three minutes and hung right with the Tommies including a pair of jump shots by Skirba to pull the Auggies within 15-14 at the 13:23 mark. St. Thomas used a 16-4 run over the next six minutes to build a double-digit lead and went into the locker room leading 41-26 at the intermission.

Augsburg cut the Tommie lead to nine off a 3-pointer by Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS) at the 13:56 mark and again off a pair of Brittany Zins (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) free throws at the 10:57 mark. St. Thomas outscored Augsburg 24-13 over the final 10 minutes of action to post a 78-55 win and remain unbeaten in MIAC play.

For the game, Augsburg shot a season-high 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, while the Tommies hit 54.2 percent (32-of-59) of their shot attempts. St. Thomas claimed a 36-28 advantage on the boards and held a 52-34 advantage in points in the paint.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (1/9) when the Auggies travel to Northfield to take on Carleton College in the third of five consecutive road games for the Auggies. The Tommies return to action on Monday (1/7) as they host Bethel University.
