Auggies fall 2-0 at Carleton

BOXSCORE NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Surrendering goals in the eighth and 85th minutes, the Augsburg College women's soccer team lost its first game of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to host Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Bell Field.

Carleton (6-6-1 overall, 4-2-0 MIAC) outshot Augsburg (8-1-4 overall, 4-1-1 MIAC) by a 16-12 margin en route to the victory over the Auggies, who entered the game ranked No. 25 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III national poll.

"The MIAC is a great league. In order to get results you have to give maximum effort and finish your scoring opportunities every game. Unfortunately we did not do that today. Carleton played well and deserved to win," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre.

Ellie Wilson put the Knights in front with a goal at the 7:49 mark, off a rebound off a shot by Caroline Sheffield. Connor Kasch scored an unassisted goal at the 84:47 mark to cap the scoring.

Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had two saves in goal for the Auggies, while Mikayla Coulombe had five saves for Carleton. Olivia Muyres (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) had six shots for Augsburg, while Abi Rodstein (JR, Eagan, Minn.) had three shots.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Tuesday (10/15) at 4 p.m., with a game at Hamline.

"We have to improve our stamina and attention to detail quickly because Hamline will be another difficult challenge on Tuesday," Navarre said.
