Auggies cruise past Crown in season opener

BOXSCORE ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- Jill Tichy (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to an 88-33 victory over Crown College in the nonconference season opener for the Auggies. With the win, the Auggies move to 1-0 overall, while Crown falls to 0-3 on the young season.

The Auggies started the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back. Augsburg stretched its lead to as many as 23 in the first half and took a 39-16 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Auggies continued to extend their lead in the second half and cruised on to the 88-33 victory. 16 different Auggies saw action in the contest and 13 figured into the scoring.

Augsburg finished with three players in double figures, led by Tichy's 19 point performance, which included a perfect 5-for-5 night from beyond the arc. Tichy also added four blocked shots and three assists to her stat line. Bridget Kopp (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored a career-high 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while  Jolene Blood (SR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) finished with 10 points and a pair of assists and steals.

For the game, Augsburg shot 40.0 percent (28-fo-70) from the field, while the Auggies held Crown to just 18.2 percent (8-of-44) from the floor. The Auggies grabbed an impressive 55-31 advantage on the boards and forced 26 turnovers while only committing 10.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (11/23) when it travels down to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Northwestern University in another nonconference contest.
