BOXSCORE BLAINE, Minn. -- Three different Augsburg College men's hockey players scored goals on Saturday night, as the Auggies improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over St. Olaf College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Showcase at Fogerty Arena.
Ben McClellan (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS),
Niklas Almstrom (SR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) and
Dylan Meier (FY, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) each scored for the Auggies, with
Tom Kuhn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) adding two assists.
Sixteen different Auggies figured in the scoring in Augsburg's two victories in the MIAC Showcase, with six different players scoring goals. The three goal-scorers in Saturday's game all now have two goals on the season.
McClellan opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 5:40 mark of the first period. In the second period, the Auggies scored twice, with Almstrom scoring a power-play goal from Kuhn and
Lucas Hendrickson (SO, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) at the 8:56 mark, and Meier scoring from Kuhn and
Zach Blaisdell (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) at the 18:27 mark.
St. Olaf (0-1-0 overall) scored its lone goal of the game at the 5:18 mark of the third period, when Dan Cecka scored from Tim Tuscher.
Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 29-18 margin, with
John Bretzman (JR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) collecting 18 saves in goal. On the weekend, Augsburg outshot its two foes by a combined 69-41 total, with Bretzman recording 38 saves for a .927 save percentage.
Henrik Wood had 25 saves in goal for St. Olaf.
Augsburg opens MIAC regular-season play with a two-game series against Bethel. Next Friday's (11/8) game is at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, while next Saturday's (11/9) game is at 7 p.m. at the Schwan SuperRink in Blaine.
