Kimmy Davis (FY, Niles, Ill./Resurrection College Prep HS) scored her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate game, and
Brianna Schulz (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) came up with 33 saves in goal, but their Augsburg College women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Concordia University-Wisconsin in the Auggies' season-opening game on Saturday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
Davis tied the game for the Auggies (0-1-0 overall) at the 9:17 mark of the second period, scoring her first collegiate goal from
Claire Cripps (SO, Hutchinson, Minn.).
But Emily Heckendorf scored her second goal of the game for Concordia-Wisconsin (3-0-0 overall) at the 12:56 mark of the second period from Elizabeth Otto to put the hosts ahead for good. Heckendorf had a hand in all three goals, scoring the game's first goal from Katherine Pauletti at the 5:02 mark of the first period, and assisting on Alexis Machuga's goal at the 18:39 mark of the third period.
Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 36-33 margin. Schulz recorded 33 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Jennifer DeGeorge had 32 saves in goal for the Falcons.
Davis had nine shots on-goal for Augsburg, while
Kayla Fuechtmann (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had five shots, and
Darby Lindgren (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and
Rachel Hennessy (JR, Williston, N.D.) had four shots each.
The teams complete the weekend series on Sunday (11/10) at 2 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
