BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College's
Jolene Blood (SR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) and
Jill Tichy (SR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) both had career afternoons for the Auggies, but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg women's basketball team suffered a 64-55 loss to St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
Blood led all scorers, putting up 23 points, including six 3-pointers, while adding six rebounds and a pair of assists. Tichy scored 19 points while posting career-highs in rebounds and assists, with nine and seven respectively.
After trailing 24-17 at the half, Augsburg was able to pull within one point, at 44-43 with 7:31 remaining in the action. St. Olaf countered with an 8-0 run to stretch its lead to 51-43 with just under two minutes to play and Augsburg wasn't able to finish the come-from-behind rally as the Oles remained unbeaten in conference play.
St. Olaf was led by the duo of Elise Raney (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Kim Cerjan (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty HS), who finished with 18 and 17 points respectively.
For the game, Augsburg shot a season-low 25.6 percent (20-of-78) from the field, while St. Olaf was able to convert on 42.9 percent (18-of-42) of its shots. The Auggies continued to win the turnover battle, forcing 20 while only committing 10, but struggled at the free-throw line hitting only 8-of-15, while St. Olaf finished 25-of-35 from the charity stripe.
Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (12/11) at 5:45 p.m. when it travels to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Concordia College, while St. Olaf returns to action on Monday (12/9) night when the Oles host St. Mary's University in MIAC action.
