Auggies edged 2-1 by Tommies

BOXSCORE MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Erica Berthold (SR, Issaquah, Wash.) scored the opening goal of the game for Augsburg College, but the University of St. Thomas scored two goals in a 2:19 span early in the second period to claim a 2-1 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Berthold opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season at the 2:51 mark of the first period for Augsburg (6-15-2 overall, 2-12-2 MIAC), assisted by Kayla Fuechtmann (FY, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Claire Cripps (FY, Hutchinson, Minn.).

St. Thomas (12-7-2 overall, 11-4-1 MIAC) tied the game on a goal by Kelsey Barnier at the 4:29 mark of the second period, assisted by Korinne O'Connor and Jenny Saxon. The Tommies took the lead at the 6:48 mark, when Christina Rozeske scored from Tara Baago and Morgan Olson.

St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 27-22 margin in the game. The Auggies held a 15-7 advantage in the first period, but the Tommies outshot the Auggies 14-1 in the second frame.

Brianna Schulz (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) had 25 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Alise Riedel had 21 saves for St. Thomas. Cripps had six shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Fuechtmann had five shots and Berthold had three shots.

Augsburg closes its season with a MIAC series at Concordia-Moorhead. Next Friday's (2/22) game is at 7 p.m., and next Saturday's (2/23) game is at 2 p.m.
