Auggies score 3-3 tie at Concordia

BOXSCORE MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The threesome of Rachel Hennessy (SO, Williston, N.D.), Brenna Nakonechny (FY, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Kendall Christian (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) accounted for all three Augsburg College goals on Friday night, as the Auggies scored a 3-3 overtime tie with Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Augsburg (6-15-3 overall, 2-12-3 MIAC) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to Concordia (11-7-5 overall, 10-4-3 MIAC), scoring twice in the third period. 

Hennessy scored two goals and added an assist, Nakonechny had a goal and two assists, and Christian assisted on all three goals for the Auggies. Hennessy claimed her second multi-goal game this season and eighth in her two seasons at Augsburg, while Christian had the first three-assist night of her career, and Nakonechny claimed her third multi-point night of this season.

The Auggies' third-period comeback began at the 4:06 mark, when Hennessy scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, and 31st in her 49-game Auggie career, assisted by Christian and Nakonechny. Nakonechny tied the game for the Auggies on the power play at the 17:00 mark, scoring her first collegiate goal, assisted by Hennessy and Christian.

Concordia opened the scoring at the 13:56 mark of the first period, as Madison Gendreau scored from Abby Taffe. But Augsburg tied the game 64 seconds later, when Hennessy scored from Christian and Nakonechny on the power play. Concordia scored twice in the second period, as Lauren Riley scored from Mickey Moran 47 seconds into the frame, and Bekah Wright scored from Kelsey Vandegrift and Jenna Westerham at the 12:56 mark.

Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 38-28 margin, with Augsburg goalie Brenna Schulz (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) collecting 35 saves for her 12th 30-plus save effort of the season. Madison Denny had 25 saves in goal for Concordia.

The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/23) at 2 p.m. at Concordia.
