BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team finished with three players in double-figures but it wasn't enough as the Auggies dropped a hard-fought 67-64 contest to St. Olaf College.
Augsburg (8-15 overall, 6-14 MIAC) was led by
Anne Skriba (SR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS), who finished with 14 points and four rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. The game marks her third double-digit performance in her last four contests and 13th overall this season. Also scoring in double-figures for Augsburg was
Jolene Blood (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) and
Jill Tichy (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS). Blood finished with 13 points and four assists, while Tichy posted 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
St. Olaf was led by Kim Cerjan, who came off the bench to score 28 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
The Auggied played well in the first-half, outshooting St. Olaf and taking a 33-27 lead into the locker room at the intermission. After being tied 46-46 at the 11:51 mark of the second-half, Augsburg went on a 13-3 run, giving the Auggies their largest lead of the afternoon, a 10 point advantage with 7:06 left in the action. St. Olaf put together a run of its own and tied things up at 62-62 with 2:21 to play. The Oles connected on a jumper and 1-of-2 from the free throw line to go up 65-62 with 17 seconds left on the clock. Augsburg's Blood scored a lay-up to bring the Auggies within one but St. Olaf's Cerjan hit 2-of-2 to extend the St. Olaf lead to 67-64. The Auggies had a chance at a 3-pointer with four seconds to go, but couldn't get it to fall.
For the game, Augsburg shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57), while St. Olaf was able to connect on 44.9 percent (22-of-49) of its shots. The Oles claimed a 37-30 advantage on the boards and were able to outscore Augsburg 26-16 in points in the paint.
Today's game marked the final home game for three Auggie seniors. We thank these seniors and their families for their support and devotion to the Augsburg women's basketball program, and wish them the best of luck in their futures.
