Muyres' hat trick leads Auggies in 10-1 win

BOXSCORE

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Olivia Muyres (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) claimed her first collegiate hat trick with three goals in the first 21 minutes of play, and six different Augsburg College women's soccer players scored goals in a 10-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday afternoon at Superior High School.

In the season-opening game for both teams, the Auggies scored seven goals in the first 24:13 of the game. Six different Auggies scored goals, and Molly Allen (JR, Stillwater, Minn.) had a four-point performance with a goal and three assists.

The 10-goal performance marked the second time that Augsburg has scored 10 or more goals in a single game in the 29-year history of the women's soccer program. Augsburg claimed an 11-0 home win over Wisconsin-Superior on Oct. 23, 2002. The 10-goal output was the most goals ever scored by Augsburg in a road game, with the previous record being seven goals (three times in program history). It's the 11th time in school history that Augsburg has scored seven or more goals in a contest.

Muyres opened the game with two goals in the first 5:16, both assisted by Allen. She capped her hat trick -- her second career multi-goal game -- with a rebound goal at the 20:15 mark. Allen, who recorded 12 assists last season, claimed her third career multi-assist game, while also scoring her first collegiate goal with her marker at the 6:16 mark of the game.

Marie Fitzgerald (SO, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored two first-half goals for the Auggies in her first collegiate multi-goal contest, assisted by Allen at the 9:01 mark and on an unassisted tally at the 14:20 mark.

Taylor Kuramoto (JR, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) gave the Auggies a 7-0 lead with her goal, capping the opening outburst at the 24:13 mark. The Auggies took the 7-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Carter Denison (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) scored two goals in her first collegiate game, scoring at the 67:33 mark and 86:05 mark. Rachel Nelson (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored her fifth collegiate goal with an unassisted tally at the 79:42 mark.

Wisconsin-Superior's lone goal came at the 73:40 mark, when Miranda Garrelts scored an unassisted goal.

Augsburg outshot Wisconsin-Superior by a 25-5 margin, including a 16-2 advantage in the first half. Twenty-three Auggies saw action in the game, with 12 recording shots.

Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) played in goal for the Auggies in the first half, and Lucy Bukowski (SO, Two Harbors, Minn.) played in goal in the second half, recording one save. Kalea Hatlewick recorded 11 saves in goal for Wisconsin-Superior.

Augsburg finishes its season-opening trip to the Twin Ports on Saturday (8/31) at 2 p.m., with a contest at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. The Saints have won nine straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season titles and finished 17-5-1 last season.
