Kayla Fuechtmann (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) claimed her second collegiate multi-goal game, scoring two goals to lead her Augsburg College women's hockey team to a 5-1 win over host Finlandia University (Mich.) in a nonconference contest on Friday evening at the Houghton County Arena.
Claire Cripps (SO, Hutchinson, Minn.) scored a goal and added three assists for a career-best four-point night for Augsburg (4-8-0 overall).
Ashley Kloncz (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and
Darby Lindgren (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored the other goals for the Auggies, with Lindgren adding an assist.
Fuechtmann opened the scoring for the Auggies just 55 seconds into the game, scoring from Cripps. Augsburg then scored two goals on the power play -- Kloncz scoring from Lindgren and Cripps at the 17:48 mark of the opening frame, and Cripps scoring from
Callen Naasz (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) at the 15:51 mark of the second period.
Augsburg took a 4-0 lead with Fuechtmann's second goal of the game, an even-strength goal at the 9:20 mark of the third period from
Kimmy Davis (FY, Niles, Ill./Resurrection College Prep HS) and Cripps. Fuechtmann has now scored six goals against Finlandia in her career, after a four-goal effort in Augsburg's 13-0 win over the Lions on Jan. 5, 2013.
Finlandia scored at the 11:00 mark of the third period, as Brock Nelson scored from Jena Kosley and Alexandrea Chutskoff. But Augsburg capped the scoring with Lindgren's goal at the 16:33 mark, scoring from
Brenna Nakonechny (SO, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Naasz.
The Auggies outshot the Lions by a 37-23 margin in the game.
Brianna Schulz (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) had 20 saves in 52:30 of action, with
Lauren Torborg (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) making her collegiate debut in goal in the third period, stopping two shots in 7:16 of work. Breanna Merriam had 32 saves in goal for Finlandia.
The teams complete the nonconference series on Saturday (1/11) at 2 p.m. Eastern time at Finlandia.
