Augsburg drops 3-1 decision at Gustavus

BOXSCORE ST. PETER, Minn. -- Zach Dick (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg College in the third period, as the Auggies dropped a 3-1 decision to host Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

Dick scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Dylan Meyer (FY, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and Mack Ohnsted (SO, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) on the power play at the 17:43 mark of the third period for Augsburg (9-4-1 overall, 2-2-1 MIAC).

Sam Smith had a goal and an assist for Gustavus (8-4-3 overall, 5-1-1 MIAC), with Adam Smyth and Corey Leivermann scoring the other Gustie goals.

Smyth scored from Smith at the 3:40 mark of the first period for the Gusties, with Smith scoring a goal from Joey Olson and Gustav Bengston at the 18:04 mark. After a scoreless second period, the Gusties made it 3-0 with a power-play goal from Leivermann, assisted by Jack Walsh and Tyler Lapic.

Augsburg outshot Gustavus by a 29-24 margin. Matthew Bartels (FY, Sun City, Calif./Winston Churchill (Ore.) HS), making his fourth collegiate start in goal for the Auggies, had 21 saves. John McLean had 28 saves for Gustavus.

Ohnsted had six shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Corbin Chapman (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had five shots and Ben McClellan (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots.

The teams will complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/18) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
