Seidlitz scores 29 in Auggies' loss to Oles

BOXSCORE NORTHFIELD, Minn. --  Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) led all players with 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College men's basketball team fell to a tough St. Olaf College squad 82-63 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Skoglund Center.

Seidlitz led all players with 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting, while adding seven rebounds and a blocked shot for Augsburg (11-6 overall, 7-5 MIAC). Seidlitz is averaging 17.7 points per-game this season and is currently ranked second among MIAC players overall in scoring average. 

Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Noah Veach (SR, Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS), who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists. 

St. Olaf (13-4 overall, 10-2 MIAC) was paced by Connor Gunderson, who scored 26 points with nine rebounds and six assists. Justin Pahl added 16 points an assist and a blocked shot for the Oles.

The Auggies grabbed the opening basket of the afternoon on a layup by Joey Sonnenfeld (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) but that proved to be the final lead of the day for the Auggies, as St. Olaf grew its lead to 40-25 at the half. The Auggies were able to cut the Ole lead to 10 on multiple occassions in the second half, but couldn't get it to single digits as St. Olaf went on to claim the win.

For the game, Augsburg shot 48.9 percent (22-of-45) from the field, while the Oles connected on 59.3 percent (35-of-59) of their shots. The Auggies claimed a 28-22 advantage on the boards, but committed 15 turnovers compared to just four for the Oles.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/29) at 7:30 p.m., hosting Gustavus Adolphus College at Si Melby Hall. It will be the first of back-to-back home games for the Auggies before heading on the road for a pair of MIAC contests.
