Auggies fall 5-1 to No. 10-ranked Adrian

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Claire Cripps (SO, Hutchinson, Minn.) scored for Augsburg College halfway through the third period, providing the Auggies' lone goal in a 5-1 loss to visiting Adrian College (Mich.) in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Cripps scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Kayla Fuechtmann (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS), at the 10:54 mark of the third period. Augsburg (3-7-0 overall) outshot Adrian (8-3-0 overall) by an 11-5 margin in the third period, as the teams both had 20 shots on-goal in the game.

Danielle Smith (SR, Highland, Mich.) scored two power-play goals for Adrian, the No. 10-ranked team in the latest D3hockey.com Division III national poll. Kaylyn Schroka (FY, Belleville, Mich.) scored a goal and added two assists, Kelsey Kusch (JR, St. Clair Shores, Mich.) had a goal and an assist, and Sydney Smith (FY, Sarnia, Ontario) scored a goal for the Bulldogs. Courtney Millar (JR, Newport, Mich.) had two assists.

Brittany Fussy (SO, East Bethel, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) made her first start in goal as an Auggie, claiming 15 saves. Jade Walsh (FY, Cochrane, Alberta) had 19 saves in goal for Adrian.

Adrian scored on all three of its power-play opportunities in the game, while Augsburg was scoreless on its three power-play situations.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first period, with Sydney Smith scoring at the 10:41 mark and Danielle Smith scoring at the 17:39 mark on the power-play. Adrian scored three goals in the second period, with Schroka scoring on the power play at the 7:54 mark, Danielle Smith scoring her second power-play goal at the 13:47 mark and Kusch scoring at the 17:20 mark.

Cripps and Darby Lindgren (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had three shots on-goal each for the Auggies, while Brenna Nakonechny (SO, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS), Ellie Schaaf (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS), Rachel Hennessy (JR, Williston, N.D.) and Fuechtmann had two shots each.

The teams complete the nonconference series on Saturday (1/4) at 2 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink. Saturday's game is Augsburg's annual "Skate With The Auggies" contest, as fans are encouraged to bring their skates and skate with the women's hockey team following the game.
