BOXSCORE EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire used a three-goal second period outburst and added another goal in the third period, scoring a 4-0 win over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game on Tuesday evening at the Hobbs Ice Center.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire (8-3-1 overall), the defending NCAA Division III national champions, claimed a 48-20 shots on-goal advanage over Augsburg (8-2-1 overall). The teams entered the game both ranked nationally in the D3hockey.com Division III national poll -- the Blugolds at No. 12 and the Auggies at No. 14. In the other major Division III national poll, on the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) website, UW-Eau Claire is ranked No. 10 and Augsburg is the first team in the "Others Receiving Votes" category outside the top 15.
After a scoreless first period, UW-Eau Claire outshot Augsburg by an 18-5 margin in the second period, scoring three goals. Ten different Blugolds figured in the scoring, with Patrick Moore collecting a goal and an assist. Joe Krause had a power-play goal, and Jared Williams and Ethan Nauman had the other goals.

Mack Ohnsted (SO, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson HS) had four shots on-goal for Augsburg, while
Zach Dick (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) had three shots and
B.J. McClellan (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had two shots.
John Bretzman (JR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) had a season-high 44 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Tyler Green stopped all 20 shots he faced for the win in goal for UW-Eau Claire.
The Auggies return to action with a nonconference set of home games at Ed Saugestad Rink this weekend. On Friday (1/10) at 7:05 p.m., the Auggies host the Milwaukee (Wis.) School of Engineering, and on Saturday (1/11) at 4:05 p.m., the Auggies host Concordia-Wisconsin.
