Auggies secure back-to-back MIAC volleyball crowns

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 22-ranked Augsburg College volleyball team locked up a share of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship for the second year in a row with a 3-1 victory over Macalester College on Saturday morning at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ashley Peper (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had a match-high 16 kills, hitting .265, while adding nine digs, four service aces, and four blocks.
Colleen Ourada (SR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) recorded a kill-dig double-double, with 10 kills, 17 digs and two aces. She hit .333 with just one error in 27 attack attempts. Ourada now finished the regular season with 
19 kill-dig double-doubles and 47 for her career. She has recorded double-digit kill totals in 20 of Augsburg's 26 matches this season.
• Middle hitters Taylor Linn (FY, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Jessica Lillquist (JR, Sebeka, Minn.) combined for 14 kills in the match, with Linn collecting nine kills and four blocks, and Lillquist collecting five kills with two blocks (one solo). Linn hit a team-best .385 in the match, while Lillquist hit .360.
Ellen Sachs (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) claimed 10 kills, hitting .222, with a block.
• Setter Courtney Lemke (SO, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) claimed her 12th assist-dig double-double of the season, with 43 assists and 12 digs. She also had Augsburg's lone solo block. Libero Mackensie Menke (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) had 11 digs in the match.
• As a team, Augsburg recorded nine service aces compared to the Scots' seven.
• Augsburg hit .266 in the match, while Macalester hit .073. 
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg finishes in a tie for first place in the MIAC standings with St. Thomas. Last year, Augsburg and St. Thomas tied for the MIAC's regular season title, but the Tommies held the tie-breaker and received the top seed in the conference playoffs. This year, the Auggies have the tiebreaker over the Tommies because they beat them in a five-set thriller on Oct. 22. 
• Augsburg will have home-court advantage throught the conference playoffs. 

• The Auggies have now won 11 matches in a row and 15 of their last 16 contests.
• It's the 13th time Lemke has recorded 40-plus assists this year and her fifth time reaching 40-plus assists in her last six matches.
• Augsburg is now 9-1 in four-set matches this season.

• It was senior night for three Auggies, and although it was not their last match at Si Melby Hall, Colleen Ourada, Mackensie Menke and Kyle Everett (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) were honored prior to the match beginning.

FOR THE FOES
• Clara Bauman finished with eight kills, to go along with nine digs and two solo blocks. Regan Fruh, Lynn Zemaitis, and Arianna Hesterberg combined for 15 kills, five each. 
• Brooke Hunter recorded seven kills and 16 digs. 

• Setter Hesterberg finished with 23 assists to go along with her five kills, three service aces and three digs.

• MIAC Conference Playoffs, Augsburg will have a first round bye before it hosts a semifinal match on Thursday (11/8) at 7 p.m.
