MINNEAPOLIS -- On a dramatic goal 31 seconds into overtime by Olivia Muyres (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS), the Augsburg College women's soccer team claimed its first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship with a 1-0 triumph over the University of St. Thomas on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Muyres scored the game-winning goal, her MIAC-leading 14th goal of the season and sixth game-winning goal of the year, 31 seconds into the first overtime period, scoring off a scramble in front of the net following a feed from the left side by Marta Anderson (SO, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS). BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• By winning the MIAC regular-season title, Augsburg will receive a first-round bye and host a conference playoff semifinal game on Wednesday (11/5) at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg will host the winner of Tuesday's (11/4) quarterfinal game between No. 4-seed Saint Benedict and No. 5-seed St. Thomas. Should the Auggies win the semifinal game, they would host the playoff championship game next Saturday (11/8) at Edor Nelson Field.
• The MIAC regular-season championship is the first for Augsburg in its 30-season women's soccer history. Augsburg's 14 overall victories and nine MIAC wins are both single-season victory records for the team.
• Augsburg will compete in its sixth MIAC playoff tournament in school history and its second in the last three years. Augsburg was the MIAC playoff runner-up in 2012.

• Among MIAC players in overall statistics, Muyres finished the regular season as the conference's leader in both goals (14) and points (37). Teammate Molly Allen (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) leads the league in overall assists with 14.

FOR THE FOES

QUOTE FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH MIKE NAVARRE
• "Before I acknowledge our team's great accomplishment I want to say that this championship began in 1999 with only eightplayers on the roster. Every player who has played for Augsburg in my time here contributed to this achievement, and their efforts should not be forgotten. We are looking at a great view from a top of a mountain tonight, but we are standing on the shoulders of all the players who came before this team. Not only the soccer program, but the entire athletic department has come so far since I started. It should be noted that our volleyball team is also celebrating a conference regular-season co-championship today."
• "Now to comment on this amazing team I have the pleasure of coaching. To win a championship, you have to have special players. However, you must also have a will and we have been slowly strengthening our resolve since we lost the MIAC playoff championship in penalty kicks in 2012. Nothing great happens in athletics without a struggle; we've persevered, we've found some grit, and have been justly rewarded."
• "To be champions of our league is a great honor, as the MIAC is filled with outstanding teams. We will surely be tested in the playoffs. We will enjoy tonight. Next week another test begins, one that is sure to be difficult."
