THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 62, Bethel 61 (2OT)
LOCATION: Royal Stadium, Arden Hills, Min.
RECORDS: Augsburg 4-6 overall (3-5 MIAC), Bethel 7-3 overall (6-2 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Scott set Augsburg single-game school records for passing yardage (563) and total offense yardage (630), completing 28-of-41 passes, with five touchdowns against two interceptions, while rushing 18 times for 67 yards. Scott broke Augsburg's records in the two categories -- 558 passing yards and 536 total offense yards -- both set by Jordan Berg in a 2007 game against Gustavus. His 630 yards of total offense is an MIAC single-game record, breaking the old mark of 602 yards (all passing), set by Tom Stallings of St. Thomas in a 1993 game against Bethel.
• Sonnenfeld shattered Augsburg's single-game record for receiving yardage with his 15-catch, 334-yard effort. The old record for receving yardage in a game was 271, set by Scott Hvistendahl in a 1998 game against Mayville State (N.D.). Sonnenfeld's mark is also an MIAC single-game record, breaking the old mark of 285 yards set by Jim Bradford of Carleton in a 1990 game against Gustavus. Sonnenfeld caught touchdown passes of 80, 68 and 20 yards from Scott.
• Jerise Washington (SR, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS) accumulated 162 all-purpose yards -- rushing six times for 26 yards and three touchdowns, while catching eight passes for 136 yards.
• The game was a wild, back-and-forth affair, with Augsburg building a 21-6 first-quarter lead and a 35-33 halftime advantage. The teams exchanged leads six times in the game, with the game tied 55-55 going to overtime.
• Neither team scored in its first overtime session, with Bethel stopped on downs at the Augsburg 18-yard line and Augsburg stopped on an interception by David Morgan.
• Augsburg scored three plays into its second overtime session, when Scott completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Sonnenfeld and the extra-point kick was converted by Brandyn Oliver (SO, Lake City, Minn.). Bethel scored on a Marshall Klitzke four-yard run, but failed on a Klitzke run on a two-point conversion attempt, giving the 62-61 win to the Auggies.
• Hunter Friesen (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) caught four passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns -- a 50-yarder in the first quarter and a four-yarder in the third quarter.
• Chris DeVet (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had 10 tackles (three solo), while
Isiah Malone (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Park Center HS) had nine tackles (eight solo), an interception and 39-yard return, and a pass breakup.
• Denzel Anderson (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had eight tackles (five solo), and Felix Coleman (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Mykar Groves (JR, West St. Paul, Minn./Simley HS) had seven tackles each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg snapped a 16-season losing streak to Bethel with the win. Augsburg's last win over the Royals was a 56-22 win on Nov. 7, 1997 at the Metrodome. The Auggies also broke a 11-game road losing streak to the Royals. The Auggies' last win in Arden Hills was a 21-20 triumph on Sept. 23, 1989.
• Augsburg outgained Bethel by a 656-589 margin in the game. The Auggies had 563 net passing yards and 93 net rushing yards, while the Royals had 319 passing yards and 270 rushing yards.
• The two teams combined to shatter the MIAC's single-game combined scoring record, with its 123 points better than the old mark of 109, set in a St. Thomas 55-54 win over Carleton in 1996.
