Auggies top Crown 95-55

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) posted his third consecutive game of 18 points or more to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team in a 95-55 victory over Crown College in nonconference action on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg shot a season-high 50.0 percent (30-of-66) from the field and an incredible 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point range.
• The Auggies claimed a 47-34 advantage on the boards and outscored Crown 46-28 in points in the paint.
• Augsburg started the game on a 24-6 run and never looked back. Augsburg extended its lead to as many as 23 points in the first half and took a 51-36 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Auggie defense held the Storm offense to just a pair of free throws over the final seven minutes of action as they cruised to a 95-55 victory.
• Rasmussen posted his third consecutive game of 18 points or more to start the young season. He finished 7-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line, while adding four rebounds and a steal.
• Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Joe Zangel (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), who scored 15 and 13 points respectively. Zangel finished 6-of-9 from the field and added five rebounds, while Hines was 4-of-9 from the field with nine assists.
• Ryan Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the Auggies on the boards, finishing with nine rebounds and eight points.


FOR THE FOES
• Crown finished with two players in double figures, led by Austin VanDerHeyden, who posted the only double-double of the night, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
• The Storm shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and 19.0 perecent (4-of-21) from 3-point range.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• 15 different Auggies saw action in the contest and 12 factored into the scoring. The Auggie reserves outscored the Storm reserves 41-18.
• The last time Augsburg and Crown met was during the 2008-09 season when the teams played a home-and-home series. Augsburg posted a 97-46 victory at St. Bonifacius and an 89-43 win at Si Melby Hall.
