Auggies win MIAC playoff title, earn trip to nationals

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the first time in school history, the Augsburg College women's soccer team will compete in the NCAA Division III national tournament, after clinching a berth with a 1-0 win over Concordia College-Moorhead in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship game on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Molly Allen (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game at the 43:53 mark, taking a pass from Olivia Muyres (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and sprinting the length of the field on a counterattack, driving home her third goal of the season.
• Augsburg put the pressure on the Cobbers in the first half, outshooting the visitors by a 10-5 margin, en route to a 14-10 advantage in the game. Concordia outshot Augsburg 5-4 in the second half, but the Cobbers' attacks were parried each time by a stout Augsburg defense.
• Marissa Guillou (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had three saves to pick up the victory in goal for the Auggies, claiming her sixth shutout of the season and the team's 10th shutout win. The win was Augsburg's third shutout in a row.
• Abi Rodstein (SR, Eagan, Minn.) had four shots to lead Augsburg, while Muyres had three shots. Emily Gregg (SO, River Falls, Wis.) and Taylor Kuramoto (SR, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) had two shots each.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg, which won the MIAC's regular-season and playoff titles this season, receives the MIAC's automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Division III national tournament. The tournament bracket will be announced on Monday (11/10) at 12 p.m. on a webcast on the NCAA.com website. Concordia will be in contention of one of the 20 at-large bids to the tournament.
• Augsburg improved upon its single-season school record for wins with its 16th triumph.
• The MIAC regular-season and playoff titles, along with the NCAA tournament berth, are all firsts in the 30-year history of the Augsburg women's soccer program.

• Elizabeth Robinson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had four shots for Concordia, whle Emily Wendorff (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo Davies HS) and Libby Fransdal (SR, Hopkins, Minn.) had two shots each.
• Elizabeth Bitzan (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Shanley HS) had three saves in goal for Concordia.
