Auggies shoot season-best in 76-43 win over Wildcats

BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team shot a season-best 50 percent in a 76-43 victory over St. Catherine University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Butler Center.

Jill Tichy (SR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) led all players with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor and 6-for-8 from 3-point range, while adding five rebounds, a steal and an assists for Augsburg (8-9 overall, 5-9 MIAC). Tichy has been the Auggies leading scorer this season, averaging 14.7 points per-game. She is ranked in the top-10 in the MIAC in scoring average and has scored in double figures in all but two games this season.

St. Catherine (3-15 overall, 2-13 MIAC) was paced by Kennedy Jennings, who scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. LaShay Holt posted a team-leading seven rebounds for the Wildcats, while adding four points and a steal.

Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Marie Fitzgerald (SO, Fort Atkinson, Wis.), who finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Ashley Anfinson (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) came off the bench for the Auggies to record a career-best eight points, while adding a team-best three steals.

The Auggies led 13-10 at the 13:22 mark of the first half before putting together a key 9-1 run to extend their lead to double digits. Augsburg was able to stretch its lead to as many as 17 points in the first frame before taking a 37-23 lead into the locker room at the intermission. 

Augsburg outscored St. Kate's 22-6 over the first nine minutes of the second half -- extending their lead to a 30 point advantage. The Auggies were able to cruise on to the 76-43 win and pick up the important MIAC victory. 

For the game, Augsburg shot a season-best 50.0 percent (26-of-52) from the field -- including connecting on a season-best 13 three-pointers (13-of-25) and posting an 11-of-12 afternoon from the free throw line. The Auggie defense held St. Kate's to just 29.2 percent (14-of-48) shooting from the floor. Augsburg also posted a dominate 38-27 advantage on the boards.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Monday (2/3) at 5:45 p.m., when the Auggies host Concordia College-Moorhead in a men's and women's doubleheader.
