BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. --
John Bretzman (JR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) claimed his second collegiate shutout in goal with a 19-save effort, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 4-0 win over Hamline University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening at Oscar Johnson Arena.
With the win to complete a weekend sweep, Augsburg (12-8-3 overall, 5-6-3 MIAC) remained alive in the hunt for a berth in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs. Augsburg has 18 conference points, currently five behind Concordia-Moorhead (12-8-5 overall, 6-6-4 MIAC) for the final spot in the postseason.
Augsburg faces St. Olaf (10-9-4 overall, 8-3-3 MIAC), already a playoff qualifier, in its final series of the regular season next weekend, while Concordia is idle, having completed its conference season this weekend. Augsburg would need to sweep the Oles, earning all six league points, to leapfrog the Cobbers into the playoffs.
Augsburg outshot Hamline (2-20-1 overall, 1-13-0 MIAC) by a 31-19 margin in Saturday's contest, including a 14-0 advantage in a scoreless first period. But Augsburg did its most damage when it was outshot by a 9-5 margin by the Pipers in the second perid, as three of the five Auggie shots found their way into the net.
Ben McClellan (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season, scoring from
Zach Dick (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and
Carl Krieger (SO, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) at the 1:29 mark of the second period. Krieger followed with a goal from McClellan at the 5:08 mark, and

Zach Blaisdell (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) and
Scott Eberline (SR, Northville, Mich./Novi HS) at the 14:22 mark.
The Auggies capped the scoring at the 6:52 mark of the third period, as
Erik Ordahl (SR, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) scored a shorthanded goal from
Niklas Almstrom (SR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS).
The Auggies host St. Olaf next Friday (2/21) at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and travel to face the Oles next Saturday (2/22) at 7 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
