Ashley Kloncz (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and
Darby Lindgren (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had a goal and assist each, leading Augsburg College to a 2-1 win over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Brianna Schulz (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) stopped 36 of the 37 shots she faced in recording the vcitory for Augsburg (8-16-0 overall, 5-12-0 MIAC). Both Augsburg and St. Olaf (6-17-1 overall, 6-10-1 MIAC) had 37 shots in the game. The 36-save effort marked Schulz's ninth 30-plus-save effort of the season, and sixth in her last eight starts.
With the win, Augsburg recorded its most victories in a season since the 2006-07 (8-12-5) and 2005-06 (8-14-3) campaigns.Â
Kloncz opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 7:16 mark of the first period, assisted by Lindgren and
Danielle Heitkamp (FY, Grand Rapids, Minn.). Lindgren gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead with a goal 46 seconds in the second period, assisted by Kloncz.
St. Olaf cut the lead to 2-1 with a power-play goal by Annie Pumper, assisted by Kiki Platek.
The Oles outshot the Auggies by a 31-21 margin over the final two periods, but Schulz stopped 20 shots in that span, including all 12 shots she faced in the third period. Cassie Alexander had 35 saves in goal for St. Olaf.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/22) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
