Auggies open MIAC play with 4-0 win over SMU

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring four goals in the first 34 minutes of play, the Augsburg College women's soccer team opened its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season with a 4-0 win over Saint Mary's University on Wednesday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored three goals in the first 16:36 of play, scoring on three of its first seven shots of the game.
• Marie Fitzgerald (JR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored two goals in a 6:32 span, scoring on a one-timer from Olivia Muyres (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) at the 10:04 mark, then heading home a cross-box feed from Molly Allen (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) at the 16:36 mark.

• Muyres opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal from Fitzgerald at the 8:30 mark. Ashley Waalen (SO, Amery, Wis.) wrapped up the scoring for the Auggies with a blast from 20 yards out, assisted by Morgan Kenny (SO, Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield Central HS), at the 33:02 mark.
• For the third time this season, Augsburg's goalkeepers split a shutout, with Marissa Guillou (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) claiming two saves in the first half and Lucy Bukowski (JR, Two Harbors, Minn.) claiming two saves in the second half.
• Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 21-10 margin in the game, including a 13-4 advantage in the first half.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 26-6 margin this season, including a 22-0 advantage in its three home games.
• Muyres is now one point away from tying Millie Suk (2002-05) for Augsburg's career points record. In 63 career games, Muyres now has 35 goals and 22 assists for 92 points; Suk scored 38 goals and 17 assists for 93 points in her career. Muyres' 35 career goals are second to Suk's 38 for the school record, while her 22 assists are fourth-most in school history.
• Allen expanded upon her school record for career assists with her 29th assist.
• Fitzgerald, who had two goals and an assist on Tuesday, leads the MIAC in both goals (8) and points (18), while Allen leads the MIAC in overall assists (6). Muyres is second among MIAC players in all three scoring categories -- four goals, five assists for 13 points.
• Fitzgerald now has 19 goals and 14 assists for 52 points in 45 career games, moving into eighth place in school history in career points and seventh place in career goals.

• Emily Loof (FY, Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's HS) and Emma Schaefer (SO, Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) had three shots each for Saint Mary's.
• Miranda Halling (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had seven saves in goal for the Cardinals.
