Blugolds claim 4-1 win over Auggies

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Nate Flynn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg College midway through the third period, but the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored the first four goals of the game in securing a 4-1 nonconference men's hockey win on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Flynn scored his third goal of the season at the 10:48 mark of the third period, assisted by Drew Anderson (FY, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) and Daniel Hildebrandt (SR, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS). 
• UW-Eau Claire outshot Augsburg by a 30-27 margin.
• Augsburg goalie Fredrik Melander (SO, Uppsala, Sweden/Trinity-Pawling Prep (N.Y.) HS) had 15 saves in a period-and-a-half, before being relieved by John Bretzman (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS), who had 11 saves in relief.
• Flynn had five shots on-goal in the game, while Ben McClellan (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots. Mack Ohnsted (JR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) and Zach Dick (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) had three shots each.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The game was the second nonconference meeting between Augsburg and UW-Eau Claire this season at Ed Saugestad Rink. The Blugolds scored a 3-1 win at Augsburg on Nov. 29.
• Saturday's game was Augsburg's fifth straight contest against a team ranked in the U.S. College Hockey Online (www.uscho.com) Division III national poll, and its sixth game against a nationally ranked foe in its last seven starts.


FOR THE FOES
• Logan Lemirande tied the game for UW-Stevens Point just 2:28 after Hendrickson's goal, scoring from Garrett Ladd and Jacob Barber.
• Joe Kalisz gave the Pointers the lead with his team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 18:14 mark of the third period, scoring from Nick D'Avolio and Drew Graves.
• Brandon Jaeger recorded 25 saves in goal for the Pointers.
• UW-Stevens Point is ranked No. 6 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, and No. 5 in the latest D3hockey.com national poll.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a series against Gustavus next weekend. Augsburg hosts Gustavus next Friday (10/16) at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and faces the Gusties in St. Peter, Minn., next Saturday (10/17) at 7 p.m.
