Auggies rally for 24-19 win at Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Rallying for victories in four of the last five bouts, including pins in the final two, the Augsburg College wrestling team claimed a 24-19 victory over Augustana College (S.D.) in a nonconference dual meet on Sunday afternoon at Augustana's Elmen Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 11 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national poll, rallied from a 16-3 deficit to Division II Augustana after the first five bouts, winning four of the final five bouts, including three by pin.
• Eric Hensel (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) began the Auggie comeback with a 31-second pin of Parker Swanson at 174 pounds, improving to 11-3 on the season with his fourth pin of the campaign -- his second sub-1-minute pin.
• In the penultimate bout of the afternoon, heavyweight Donny Longendyke (SO, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) claimed a 4:23 pin of Michael Lowman, trimming the Augustana lead to 19-18. A transfer from Division I Nebraska, Longendyke is now 17-2 on the season with 13 bonus-point victories (10 pins, one technical fall, two major decisions).

• In the final bout, defending 125-pound national champion Mike Fuenffinger (SR, Hibbing, Minn.), ranked No. 1 nationally in the Division III national rankings at 125, scored a 6:04 pin of Javier Vieyra to give the Auggies the match victory. Fuenffinger improved to 15-1 on the season with the win, his 13th bonus-point victory (four pins, three technical falls, six major decisions).
• Tommy Teigen (SR, Ham Lake, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian HS) claimed a key win in the Auggie comeback, scoring a 6-2 win over Aero Amo at 184 pounds. Teigen is now 9-2 on the season.
• Marcus Hamer (SO, Kimball, Minn.) had the lone Augsburg victory in the first five bouts, a 3-1 win over Austin Jordan at 141. Hamer is now 14-6 this season.

FOR THE FOES

• In the only meeting of ranked wrestlers, Augustana's No. 4-ranked Jayd Docken scored a 4-1 win over Augsburg's Matt Hechsel (SR, Apple Valley, Minn.), ranked No. 10 nationally at 197.
• Morgan Engbrecht opened the match with a 4-2, overtime (SV-1) win over Augsburg's Chad Bartschenfeld (SR, Amery, Wis.) at 133.
